history

The previous building was built in 1873 and a new administration building was built in the years before the Second World War , but it was destroyed in the Second World War on April 26, 1945.

The New Town Hall was built from 1957 to 1960. It is an elevated administration building that dominates the town hall square with its broad mass supported on large pillars. Connected to the administration building was an upstream wing that comprised the city and district savings bank.

The plan for the New Town Hall was seen as a "happy urban design" when it was first created ; the new building dominates the town hall square and stands in an interesting contrast to the old town hall .

At the turn of the millennium, however, the demolition of the administrative building was discussed. While the wing with the bank was demolished, it was decided to restore the administration building. "The basic idea is to activate the sequence of squares Rathausplatz - Viktualienmarkt - Theaterplatz through a continuous barrier-free design of the floor coverings. " In 2006, a circular, pavilion-like extension was created under the building, which stands on pillars, which is located directly at the entrance foyer. The building was covered with gray blinds. It was created by the architects Auer + Weber + Assoziierte from Munich. The wing with the bench was newly created and now protrudes far into the town hall square.
