The New Theater Łódź is a drama theater in the Polish city of Łódź .

Theater history

The theater was founded on the initiative of young graduates from the State University of Film, Television and Theater Łódź Leon Schiller , who had set themselves the goal of making a modern and committed political theater. For the inauguration of the theater, the premiere of Vašek Káňa's brigade Grinder Karhan was chosen and scheduled for November 12, 1949. The performances originally took place in the “Soldiers' House” building (34 Daszyńskiego Street, now Tuwim Street in Łódź). In 1951 the institution was moved to its current location, 15 Więckowski Street.

The original theater troupe had 23 members, including Kazimierz Dejmek , Dobrosław Mater, Tadeusz Mierzejewski, Janusz Warmiński, Jerzy Merunowicz, Stanisław Łapiński, Barbara Rachwalska, Bronisława Bronowska, Józef Pilarski, Wojczyńiech Pilsydcydczyzydczyzki, Tadeńadeusski, Tadeńiechzki.

On January 14, 2008 the theater was named after its first director - Kazimierz Dejmek.
