The New Theater in the seaport town of Emden in East Frisia is a house without its own ensemble and the largest theater in the city of Emden. It was built in 1970 and has a capacity of 680 for drama and 600 for music theater. It has a large foyer and modern artists' changing rooms. It is used for events in the areas of drama, music theater, shows, but also conferences and congresses. It also serves as the assembly hall of the JAG Emden . According to the city of Emden, the catchment area of ​​the theater is around 110 kilometers, corresponding to 300,000 people. The theater is the venue for the Lower Saxony North State Theater and the Emden-Norderney International Film Festival .

The stage space is 16.80 m wide and 10.80 m deep. It is equipped with Schnakenberg hand counter pulls with a load capacity of 300 kg / pull. The portals are on rails and therefore the width of the stage opening is variable between 9.00 m and 11.50 m. The portal is 5.00 m high. The front stage can be moved hydraulically and can be used as an orchestra pit with direct access to the artists' changing rooms. Dimensions: width 13.50 m, depth 4.80 m, load: max. 300 kg / m²

Lighting technology

The New Theater has a portal bridge and two portal towers with PC and Fresnel spotlights, a Z-bridge with 2KW profilers and connection options for offsets on the stage.

Sound engineering

A fixed sound system with a Midas Venice console is installed. From here it is possible to provide sound in the foyer, hall, stage and the artists' changing rooms. A stage management system and intercom are also available.

Cinema technology

A demonstration system with Kinoton FP30 (coils) and a Dolby Digital system is installed in the New Theater. The projection screen is installed above the stage and is mobile. Its width is almost the full width of the theater and the cinemascope display fills the screen.

history

The New Theater was built in 1970 primarily as a school auditorium. It was fundamentally modernized between 2004 and 2007. In addition to the modernization of the foyer and the artists' dressing rooms, extensive fire protection measures were carried out. Since January 1, 2007, the New Theater has been part of the Nordseehalle in Emden.
