As erythema toxicum neonatorum (synonym erythema toxicum newborn or only erythema neonatorum ) is called a completely harmless and temporary skin rash that all newborns occurs in about half in the first days of life. It consists of vesicles the size of a pinhead, filled with a clear liquid with a red halo of different sizes. The vesicles contain numerous eosinophils , a type of white blood cell. The hormonal change with withdrawal of the pregnancy hormone is held responsible. Since the skin symptoms subside on their own within a few days, no specific treatment measures are necessary apart from reassuring the concerned parents.
