Redesign of the financial equalization and the division of tasks

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The redesign of the financial equalization system and the division of tasks between the Confederation and the cantons ( NFA ) is a Swiss reform project with the aim of increasing the efficiency of the Swiss political system. The NFA was adopted on November 28, 2004 in a referendum with 64 percent yes votes and came into force in 2008.

The NFA regulates the financial equalization between the cantons and the federal government on the basis of resource equalization (equalization of differences in the financial performance of the cantons), load equalization (financed by the federal government, consisting of geographical-topographical and socio-demographic equalization of loads) and hardship compensation (cushioning of the effects in a transitional period, thus cantons with fewer resources are not placed in a worse position; limited until 2036). The implementation and effectiveness of the financial equalization are reviewed every four years.

The weekly newspaper criticized several times that the NFA led to more injustices between the cantons.
