Neustadt is a village in the southwest of the Canadian province of Ontario . It is located in Gray County and is part of the West Gray parish . The place has around 300 inhabitants and is about 15 kilometers south of Hanover .

The settlement was founded in 1855 by the German immigrant David Winkler. Neustadt was an independent municipality until 2000 when it merged with several other villages to form West Gray municipality. New Town's most famous resident is former Canadian Prime Minister John Diefenbaker , who was born here in 1895.
