Nevado de Cachi is a mountain complex in the northern part of Argentina with an altitude of 6380 meters.

Geography and climate

The Nevado de Cachi is located on the eastern slope of the Andes, in the Valles Calchaquíes in the Salta region. The next settlement is the small village of Cachi . The complex includes several peaks, the highest being 6,380 meters high. The climate in northwest Argentina is very similar to the Bolivian climate. While the summers are often dry, the winter months can experience intense rain and snowfall.

Surname

The name goes back to the word Kak-chi, which means something like “silent stone” in the extinct Andean language Cacán.

Ascent

There are no more than a few hikes to the main summit annually. The first ascent took place in 1950 by Arne Hoygaard, Olivero Pelicelli and Pedro Di Pasquo. The routes are also accessible for beginners, but the ascent should not be underestimated from an altitude of 3800 meters due to strong winds, rolling rocks and year-round snow.

Hotels and gastronomy

There are no overnight accommodations directly on the mountain, but there are several accommodations, restaurants and bars in the village of Cachi.
