New Mexico Spanish

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

New Mexico Spanish is a dialect of Spanish and is spoken in the US state of New Mexico and southern Colorado ; still in northern Chihuahua state , Mexico. Speakers of the language are mainly descendants of the Spanish colonists who came to the area in the 17th and 18th centuries. During this time, contact with the rest of America was limited so the language could develop. Due to the Mexican-American war and the subsequent English-speaking US administration, the two languages mixed and specific peculiarities arose.
