The New Pants from Beijing are a Chinese pop - punk band.

Band history

The New Pants were founded in 1996, in 1998 they released their first album "New Pants", which was chosen by the Hong Kong music magazine MCB as one of the ten most important Asian records of the 90s. In 2000 the New Pants released their second album “Disco Girl”. With the video for their single “I Love You”, the band received the award for “Best Music Video” from the Chinese TV channel Chanel V in the same year.

In 2002 New Pants released their third studio album “We are automatic”, and in 2006 they recorded their fourth studio album. Despite their success, they have not yet managed to make a living from their music. For example, the keyboardist of New Pants Pang Kuan (27) works full-time as a graphic designer, while the singer and guitarist of the band Peng Lei (27) runs a small shop during the day for unusual toys and devotional items from his favorite bands Kiss and Ramones .

In addition to four other bands, New Pants also appeared in front of the camera in 2005 for the documentary Beijing Bubbles , which portrays the flourishing punk and rock scene in Beijing .
