The New Taipei City Gold Museum ( Chinese  新 北市 立 黃金 博物館 , Pinyin Xīnběishìlì Huángjīn Bówùguǎn ), formerly known as Jinguashi Gold Ecological Park , is a museum of the gold mining industry in the Ruifang District of New Taipei City , Republic of China (Taiwan) . The open-air museum includes several buildings and viewing sites.

history

The museum was opened on November 4, 2004 by the county government ( English Taipei County Government ) under the name Gold Ecological Park ( Chinese  黃金 博物 園區 ). After New Taipei City was founded in late 2010, the park was renamed Gold Museum . Nevertheless, years later, some signs still showed the old name, including at the front entrance gate (as of late 2015).

Which now belong to the museum building used to be offices, accommodation, processing buildings and other facilities of the Taiwan Metal Mining Corp . The Gold Museum comprises the following buildings: The Gold Building , the Experience the Benshan Fifth Tunnel , the Crown Prince Chalet , the Jin Shui Special Exhibition Hall , the Gold Refining Building and four Joined Japanese-Style Residences .

Exhibitions

The Gold Building provides information on the discovery of gold in the area and displays exhibits from the Benshan Tunnel , old mining equipment and transportation systems. On the upper floor there is a short introduction to the Japanese prisoner of war camp Kinkaseki ( English Kinkaseki POW Camp in World War II . On the 2nd floor the visitor is informed about the properties of gold. The exhibition includes works of art made from gold as well as a gold bar with a world record -Weight of 220.3 kilograms made of pure gold (999.9) that visitors can look at and touch.

The Crown Prince Chalet is a residence that was rebuilt in 1922 for the planned visit of the Crown Prince Hirohito ; however, this visit never took place. Decades later, the building was used as accommodation by Chiang Kai-shek .

The museum can be reached by a bus that leaves from the Ruifang train station.
