Museum in Nexoe

The Nexø Museum is the local museum of the municipality of Nexø on the east coast of the Danish island of Bornholm . It is housed in the former town hall and prison, which was built in 1796. It is located directly at the harbor in the street Havnen 9.

Opened in 1970, the museum presents exhibitions on the city's history, especially as a shipping and fishing location. For a time the place was the third largest fishing port in Denmark. The Second World War and its effects on site also play a major role. Further topics are the history of the local hospital (from 1902 to 1989) and the development of trade and commerce in the city, in particular the iron foundry founded by Christian Strand (1833–1907) in 1862. In the cellar made of natural stone there are some exhibits on equipment used in the medieval and early modern penal system.
