Nicholas Ball

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nicholas Ball († 1609 ) was an Irish politician.

Nicholas Ball was the son of Bartholomew Ball and his wife Margaret Bermingham . From 1570 to 1571 he held the office of Sheriff of Dublin . In 1574 he became councilor of Dublin. His brother Walter had already become a councilor in 1573. From 1582 to 1583 he was Mayor of Dublin. In this capacity he tried to help his mother, who had been imprisoned in 1580 by his brother Walter, who was mayor at the time. However, since Walter was still Commissioner for Ecclesiastical Causes and thus had more influence than Nicholas, Nicholas could not change that.

From 1584 to 1585 and again from 1592 to 1593 he was guild master of the merchants' guild . In 1585 he became a Member of the Irish House of Commons.
