Nicky or a queen's love

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nicky or the love of a queen is a German children's book by Jens Bahre from 1978 on the subject of love and friendship.

action

Nicky, or Nicole Robertson, is a 12-year-old girl who, after the death of her mother two years ago, grew up with her father and three younger siblings in the fictional small town of Robenhausen. First, Nicky is friends with the painter Ludwig, for whom art is more important than his livelihood. Later she raves about the bearded dumper driver Johann. At school she is friends with her bank neighbor Jupp, who in turn falls in love with her. Initially feuding, a friendship develops with her classmate Cornelia, who helps Nicky with her less understanding parents. Initially a mediocre student, she developed ambition over the course of the school year, especially in the subject of mathematics, because there she thought she was fighting against Josefine Lorenz, her teacher, and would like to beat her "with her own weapons". Over time, their grades also improve in other subjects. She worries that her father is apparently looking for a new friend. She wants to choose a partner for the father herself, but only experiences setbacks. When her father finally falls in love with her math teacher and she only finds out by chance, her situation is again confused.

style

Passages with experiences alternate in the book with the fantasies of the girl, who feels as the queen of a country (i.e. the valley around Robenhausen). Dialogues arise again and again between Nicky as queen and a Lord Chancellor who only appears in her imagination, with whom she discusses parts of her problems.
