Nicolaaskerk

The Nikolaaskerk ( German  Nikolauskirche ) is a Protestant parish church in Kortgene in the Dutch province of Zeeland .

history

The parish of Kortgene was first mentioned in 1247. The church was consecrated to St. Mary until the Reformation . It was a parish of the church of the now defunct village of Welle, the mother church of all parish churches on Noord-Beveland.

Only the tower from the 15th century has survived from the Gothic Nicolaas Church. The nave was destroyed by storm surges in 1530 and 1532 and was replaced by a new hall in 1686 when Kortgene was included in the Stadspolder . In the course of the new building, the tower was clad with new bricks. The Gothic portal has been preserved in the basement. As part of a restoration of the church in 1754, the remains of the choir were put down.

In 2008 the church got its name in memory of the old Sint Nicolaaskapel (German Sankt Nikolauskapelle ), which was located in a neighboring peasantry. The congregation belongs to the United Protestant Church in the Netherlands .
