Lower Austrian Southwest Railways
The Niederösterreichische Südwestbahnen ( NÖSWB ) were supposed to connect these two lines after the completion of the southern and western lines. They finally comprised the Leobersdorf – Hainfeld – St. Pölten (Leobersdorfer Bahn) with the Traisen – Schrambach branch line, the Wittmannsdorf – Piesting – Gutenstein line (Gutensteinerbahn) and the Pöchlarn – Scheibbs – Kienberg-Gaming line .
The first sections were opened in 1877. As early as 1878, the state took over the originally private kkpriv. Lower Austrian Südwestbahnen as kk Niederösterreichische Staatsbahnen . The abbreviation "SWB" can still be found on the boundary stones of the railways.
