The AMEOS Klinikum Osnabrück is a private psychiatric clinic . The forerunner was the Osnabrück location of the Lower Saxony state hospitals until 2007 . The clinic is located on the former site of the Gertrudenberg monastery .

The Kingdom of Hanover had the “Provincial Insane Asylum” built in 1861, which was opened in 1868 for 200 patients. In 1900 this facility was renamed “Provincial Sanatorium and Nursing Institution to Osnabrück”. During the National Socialist era , this institution was involved in the systematic murder of mentally ill people, such as the T4 campaign .

In 1952 the clinic was named Lower Saxony State Hospital Osnabrück under the sponsorship of the State of Lower Saxony . In memory of the T4 campaign, a memorial was designed by the artist Werner Kavermann and unveiled in January 2005. In 2007 the clinic was sold to the AMEOS Group and continued as AMEOS Klinikum Osnabrück .
