The Niederwald cable car is a cable car between Assmannshausen , a district of Rüdesheim am Rhein , and the Niederwald hunting lodge on the Niederwald mountain.
Niederwald attraction
The Niederwald near Rüdesheim is a wooded area high above the Rhine between Rüdesheim and Assmannshausen. Originally the commercial forest of the former Ehrenfels Castle , the later owners used it as a hunting area. The Counts of Ostein converted the property into a landscape park , built the hunting lodge in 1764 and, with the temple, the Hermitage, the Rossel, the knight's hall and the magic cave, romantic viewpoints over the Rhine and the Binger Loch.
Cog railway (s)
In memory of the campaign against France and the founding of the German Empire in 1871, the construction of the Niederwald monument was planned from 1872 and inaugurated in 1883. From 1884 onwards, two cog railways transported tourists from Rüdesheim and from 1885 from Assmannshausen to the Niederwald, but were discontinued between the two world wars due to a lack of profitability.
Double cable car
The second cable car with double seats from Assmannshausen to the Niederwald hunting lodge, installed in 1953 after the Burg an der Wupper cable car by the small Oberstdorf company, is characterized by its robust, indestructible technology, like its sister facility on the Wupper.
