Nikolaikirche in Eickenrode

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Nicholas is located in the village of Eickenrode in the municipality of Edemissen in Lower Saxony. It is located in the middle of the village on Hauptdorfweg and is a monument.

history

The current shape of the church building as a single-nave quarry stone church probably dates from the second half of the 17th century. The year 1664 was found on the coat of arms of the patrone, the Herren zu Oberg in Duttenstedt , in the former choir window. The former belfry was dated 1670. Different stones and also the different base suggest that an originally smaller church from the Middle Ages (the western part) was later made about twice as long. The name of the church indicates that it was built in the Middle Ages. Nikolaus von Myra was the patron saint of merchants and so this name can be found for many churches on trade routes. Eickenrode was on the Celle – Braunschweig road.

In 1840 a reconstruction took place according to plans of the former consistorial architect Friedrich August Ludwig Hellner , the windows were enlarged and the interior was provided with galleries and new chairs. A half-timbered roof turret at the western end of the gable roof, which is hipped to the east, was also added in 1840.

Furnishing

Inside the church has a flat plastered cover.

The current appearance of the interior goes back to a renovation in 1962/63. The pulpit altar and the east gallery behind it were removed and the pulpit and altar set up separately.

The organ was built in 1885/86 by the organ builder Furtwängler and Hammer from Hanover as opus 230 and initially stood on the east gallery. In 1963 the organ was moved to the west gallery by the organ builders Schmidt & Thiemann. The Kegelladen instrument has six registers on a manual work (Principal 8 ', Lieblich Gedackt 8', Octav 4 ', Flute 4', Forest Flute 2 ', Rauschpfeife 2').

The bell dates from 1507 and was cast by master bell founder Harmen Koster from Hildesheim. It has the tone c '' and a diameter of 79 cm. The motif on the bell is a crescent Madonna and a bishop figure, possibly Nicholas.
