Eickenrode ( Low German Eikenro'e ) is a village in the municipality of Edemissen in the Peine district in Lower Saxony .

geography

Eickenrode is located on the southern edge of the Lüneburg Heath .

In the east the river Erse flows past the place and in the north-west there are two large gravel lakes, of which the northernmost is getting closer and closer to the place.

history

First mentioned in a document as "Eykenrode" in 1342, Eickenrode belonged to the Gografschaft Edemissen in the Meinersen office from 1532 to 1885 . Then the place came to the district of Peine until today. In 1966 Eltze formed a joint community with the villages of Dedenhausen , Wehnsen, Plockhorst, Eickenrode and Ohof . In the course of the regional reform in Lower Saxony, on March 1, 1974, the unified municipality of Edemissen was formed from the localities of the joint municipality of Edemissen and eight other independent municipalities. The name Eickenrode comes from the Low German from "Eicken rohen", which means to clear oak, which also explains the symbolism of the coat of arms. Since the nationally important post and trade route Braunschweig – Celle no longer leads via Eickenrode, the village has been a bit out of the way in an attractive landscape, which the residents mostly see as an advantage.

religion

Although the size of the village and the church building suggests a chapel community, Eickenrode is a church community. The Protestant denomination was already consolidated in the early 16th century. The right of patronage was owned by the von Oberg from Duttenstedt, whose Tadensen Vorwerk was parish off to Eickenrode. At the time of the introduction of the Reformation, Eickenrode seems to have been an independent parish. Later it was connected with Duttenstedt and in 1805 with Eltze, in between it was its own parish from 1776 to 1805. A coat of arms from Oberg, formerly used in the choir window, contained the year 1664 and the church registers happen to start with this year. The old bell bears the year 1507.

The Evangelical Lutheran Nikolai parish today belongs to the Peine parish.

politics

The districts of Eickenrode and Plockhorst form a joint local council.

Local mayor is Christine Malig (SPD), deputy Andreas Fitzner (SPD).

The local representative of Eickenrode is Jens Wrede (independent)

coat of arms

The coat of arms shows in the middle an oak tree from which the place got its name. The tools that cross in front of the coat of arms are an ax and a pickaxe. The thirteen golden leaves represent the first 13 courtyards in the village.

Culture and sights

  • The Nikolaikirche from the second half of the 17th century was built from simple rubble stones and contains as the oldest inventory a bell from 1507 by master bell founder Harmen Koster.
  • The Lower Saxony farmhouse, a two-column house from 1610, was extensively restored in 1997/98.
  • The Eickenroder Schützenfest is a little different than usual and takes place as a "village feud" every year in August. The highlight is a parade on Sunday with converted vehicles and disguises of the villagers.

Economy and Infrastructure

education

The children from Eickenrode and Wehnsen attend the reliable primary school in Plockhorst. In the central town of Edemissen there are kindergartens, elementary schools, secondary schools and a secondary school. In Peine the secondary schools are high school and vocational school.
