history

church

The place name developed from Elishausen , Hellesse , Ellesse and Eilitze to today's Eltze.

At the time of the Great Migration, the foundation of today's Eltze will have been laid, the planned settlement around a Thingplatz on a slight sand bump on the bank of the Erse indicates this. However, it is an old settlement area. Old settlement sites and an urn cemetery were found.

Eltze is mentioned for the first time in 1226 in the leaning register of the Lords of Meinersen. In 1311 a priest was recorded for the first time "in Ellese". From 1316 to 1885 the place belonged to the Meinersen office .

The population was unchanged between 1600 and 1800 at 500, making Eltze the largest village in the Gografschaft Edemissen. Most of the farms were subject to duty and interest for the Lords of Marenholtz in Müden -Dieckhorst.

In 1748, collections were collected in the villages of the Principality of Lüneburg for a new church in Eltze.

Eltze survived all the turmoil of the war essentially undestroyed. Only in the Seven Years' War (1756–1763) did the French occupation set fire, as can be read on the house beam of “Keunemanns Hoff” (No. 37): “I also met the misfortune that the house and farm were burned into the ashes laid by the French iniquity. Protect this house, oh God, from fire and water shortages. ”The house, which was then rebuilt, was torn down in the early eighties. But the historic house beam with its concise inscription was attached over the large sliding doors of the new machine shower.

After a conflagration broke out in Wittingen on April 12, 1792, which destroyed 66 houses within an hour, donations of 1 Reichstaler 12 Gutegroschen were made from Eltze .

In the annals of the Braunschweig-Lüneburgischen Churlande it was reported about a fire disaster in Eltze in 1794 : Accident of the year 1794. On January 26th two houses and three outbuildings burned down in Eltze, Meinersen district.

Letter to Pastor Köhler in Eltze, 1826

In 1826 a major fire in Eltze near Uetze destroyed 16 houses. The sparks jumped from an outbuilding of the sexton's house to other buildings. The church was spared. The conflagration, which was worse than the one a good 70 years earlier, also destroyed many old granaries and sheeppens. At that time they were only thatched, like the hall houses. The fire also led to the relocation of farms from the narrowness of the village center, for example "Permaues Hoff" (No. 9), which moved to the right Ersepartie. The Schepelmannsche Hof stood in the pastor's garden before the conflagration and was relocated to Plockhorster Strasse. "Klußmanns Hoff" (No. 14) was also relocated behind the Erse, while "Osterlohs Hoff" (No. 27) came from the center to the periphery directly in front of the brook.

Among other things, a slogan on the house at Kötnerstrasse 1 reminded of the fire disaster. This farm itself became a victim of a fire in 2018.

Incorporations

The village was assigned to the newly formed district of Peine in 1885 . In 1966 Eltze formed a joint community with the villages of Dedenhausen, Wehnsen, Plockhorst, Eickenrode and Ohof.

In the course of the territorial reform, Eltze was incorporated into the municipality of Uetze on March 1, 1974 and thus added to the district of Hanover , the combined municipality was thus dissolved.
