history

After Catholic refugees and displaced persons had settled in Eltze, which has been Protestant since the Reformation , as a result of the Second World War , Catholic services were initially held in the Protestant church .

The St. Peter Church was built in 1959, and its benediction took place on November 15 of the same year . Priests of the parishes Corpus Christi in Edemissen or Hl. Engel in Peine held the services. The last Holy Mass took place in it in November 1999 . The church building was sold and taken over by the Heimatverein Eltze on January 1, 2000. Since 2000 he has maintained a local history museum with a collection on local history.

Architecture and equipment

The church was built according to plans by the Paderborn architect Lipsmeier and was around 54 meters above sea level . It has a free-standing bell tower, it is crowned by a cross and has two bells . The front door of the church shows representations from the life of St. Peter.

The external shape of the church building has remained almost unchanged even after it was profaned. One of the bells is still rung today when a Catholic resident dies in the village.
