history

Since the Reformation and into the 20th century, there was no longer a Catholic parish in Edemissen or in the northern district of Peine. Only with the influx of bombed out, refugees and displaced persons did a parish also form here in the course of the post-war period. Church services were initially carried out in private apartments, restaurants, halls or even church facilities of the Protestant church.

In 1957, the parish vicaries Klein Oedesse and Wehnsen, newly formed after the Second World War , were merged to form the new parish vicarie Edemissen. Your first pastor was Pastor Theodor Disse.

In 1959 the foundation stone was laid for the church. On 28/29 November 1959, the first Advent , followed its consecration by Auxiliary Bishop Heinrich Pachowiak . Mary , Queen of the Rosary , became the patron saint of the church.

On April 1, 1960, the parish (Kuratiegemeinde) Edemissen was established. In 1968 the church was enriched with a free-standing bell tower. On July 1, 1969, the parish was raised to a parish . In 1983/84 a new rectory was built and the church was renovated. The organ was built in 1986, and in 1987 it was consecrated by former bishop Heinrich Maria Janssen .

Before it was profaned in 1999, the St. Petrus Church in Eltze also belonged to the parish in Edemissen. Since November 1, 2006, the Edemissen church has belonged to the parish “To the Holy Angels” in Peine, the parish “Corpus Christi” was canceled in this context. At this point in time, the Peine deanery was also dissolved and the church was transferred to the Braunschweig deanery.

Architecture and equipment

The church, located around 71 meters above sea level , was built according to plans by the architect Filipschak. The wall mosaic on the back wall of the chancel designed by Claus Kilian shows the Lord's Supper . Kilian also designed the stained glass windows , they show scenes from the Old and New Testaments (Bible) as well as from the life of Mary. A statue depicts Mary on the crescent moon , with a crown and scepter , holding the baby Jesus in her arms. The company Westfälischer Orgelbau S. Sauer built the organ.
