geography

The place Oedesse is north of the district town of Peine between the two regional centers Hanover and Braunschweig - on the edge of the Südheide.

history

The place Oedesse was first mentioned in 1323 as Oesedessen. From 1532 to 1885 the place belonged to the Gografschaft Edemissen in the Amt Meinersen. Then he came to the district of Peine, to which he still belongs to this day. In 1965, the independent communities of Edemissen, Alvesse, Blumenhagen, Mödesse, Voigtholz-Ahlemissen and, since 1971, Oedesse were merged to form the joint municipality of Edemissen . In the course of the territorial reform in Lower Saxony, on March 1, 1974, the unified municipality of Edemissen was formed from the localities of the integrated municipality of Edemissen and eight other independent municipalities. The district of Klein Oedesse is believed to have originated from the settlement of "Dreiers Haus".

In the lower half of the shield, divided into gold and blue, there is a perspective view of a silver gear wheel, which refers to a company for oil drilling equipment that was taken over by Preussag and in whose hub two golden ears of corn are stuck to reflect the character of the Oedesser in agriculture and industry to point out. Because Oedesse belonged to the Guelph lands for centuries, the red armored blue Lüneburg lion walks in the upper half of the shield.

Economy and Infrastructure

Mining

In April 1905, the Hannoversche Kaliwerke AG began in small Oedesse with the sinking of the shaft Oedesse in the freezing process . In 1912 the final depth in the Berkhöpen salt dome was reached at 905 meters. Potash was mined from 1913 to 1925 . In 1911, a second was still Schacht Berkhöpen sunk, 1915 reached 670 meters his Endsohle. It was not until 1918 that the two shafts were connected to one another at depths of 540 meters and 660 meters. From then on, the Berkhöpen shaft served as a weather shaft . In 1925 the potash was transferred to the Aschersleben group and mining in Klein Oedesse was discontinued. On 12./13. August 1936 there was a water ingress (caustic ingress) in the disused shaft system , which completely drowned within a very short time . The plant was sold for "demolition" in 1937 and the rubble was filled into the shafts. The Oedesse shaft is about half filled with solids, the rest just below the surface is full of water (brine). The manhole mouth is closed with a concrete cover.
