Voigtholz-Ahlemissen is a village in the municipality of Edemissen in the Peine district in Lower Saxony .

geography

The twin village Voigtholz-Ahlemissen is north of the district town of Peine between the two regional centers Hanover and Braunschweig , away from the main thoroughfares on the edge of the Südheide. There is no thoroughfare through the village .

history

The place Ahlemissen was first mentioned in 1340 and Voigtholz much later in 1564. The place name Voigtholz-Ahlemissen as a double name appears for the first time in the middle of the 19th century. There is no precise knowledge of why the two individual locations are always referred to as double locations in the following years. It is also not known why the younger part of the village is named before the older one. From 1532 to 1885 the place belonged to the Gografschaft Edemissen in the Amt Meinersen . In 1885 it was incorporated into the Peine district.

In 1965, the independent communities of Edemissen, Alvesse, Blumenhagen, Mödesse, Voigtholz-Ahlemissen and, since 1971, Oedesse were merged to form the joint municipality of Edemissen . In the course of the territorial reform in Lower Saxony , on March 1, 1974, the unified municipality of Edemissen was formed from the localities of the integrated municipality of Edemissen and eight other independent municipalities.

A special feature in the region is the "Malerhof Chapel". The painter Hans Nowak (1922–1996) built it in 1979 for a friend who was looking for a special place for his wedding. This chapel is now a private chapel, which also contains a large-format copy of the muralThe Last Supper ” by Leonardo da Vinci .

Personalities

Hans Nowak

The painter Hans Nowak (* 1922 in Halle / Saale , † 1996 in Voigtholz-Ahlemissen) came to the Peiner area in the early 1960s. He first lived in the village of Mödesse and moved to Voigtholz in 1962. Nowak had a barn built on the “Upmann'schen Hof” and used the cowshed as a gallery.

As soon as it was set up and settled in there, Nowak prepared a coup, an “Eulenspiegelei”, in art history. A painting he painted in 1968 in the style of the French impressionist Claude Monet (1840–1926) was found to be genuine by art experts and attributed to the French artist. This art history went around the world and made Nowak world famous overnight. But there was one thing he hadn't managed to do - the old, rediscovered and refined painting technique was ignored by the “art experts”.
