Rietze is a village in the municipality of Edemissen in the Peine district in Lower Saxony .

Location and geography

The place Rietze is north of the district town of Peine between the two regional centers Hanover and Braunschweig , away from the main thoroughfares on the edge of the Südheide.

The living space is small Rietze about 1.2 km southeast of Rietze on the country road L 320 (Edemissen - Gifhorn) and consists of three houses.

history

The place Rietze was first mentioned in 1196/97 as "rithusen". From 1532 to 1885 the place belonged to the Gografschaft Edemissen in the Amt Meinersen . In 1885 it was incorporated into the Peine district.

In 1822 a major fire destroyed a number of properties in the old town center. The burnt down farmsteads were rebuilt in the same year at another location, on today's street "Wasserzeile".

In 1965 the independent communities of Horst, Rietze, Rüper, Wense and Wipshausen merged to form the Wipshausen community , and in 1967/68 Horst and Wipshausen merged to form the new community of Wipshausen. In the course of the territorial reform in Lower Saxony , on March 1, 1974, the unified community of Edemissen was formed from the localities of the integrated community of Edemissen and eight other independent communities, including Rietze.

Culture and sights

In 1236 Albert von Stade , abbot of the St. Marien Stade monastery , traveled to the Pope in Rome because of an internal church matter. Albert chose the route Stade , Bremen , Belgium, France to Italy on the outward journey . The abbot mentions around 40 stations in the world chronicle "Annales Stadenses" (1240–1256), 28 of them in the area of ​​today's Federal Republic of Germany. One of these places was the little "rithusen" (Rietze). Today this path can be taken as Via Romea .
