Nikos Karvelas ( Greek Νίκος Καρβέλας ; born September 8, 1951 in Piraeus ) is a Greek pop singer and songwriter .

Life

Nikos Karvelas began playing the piano at the age of five and made his first attempts at composing as a child. He formed a rock group while studying law at the University of Athens . Under the influence of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones , he published his first songs towards the end of the 1970s, both under his real name and under the pseudonym Nikos Leonardos (Νίκος Λεονάρδος).

In the 1980s and 1990s, he wrote many songs and pieces for his first wife Anna Vissi that made her famous, including contributions to the Grand Prix Eurovision de la Chanson . He is also particularly successful as a musical composer; In 2002 his piece Μάλα. Η μουσική του ανέμου (Mala. The Music of the Wind) Premiere, which deals with the fate of the Mala Zimetbaum . His music alternates stylistically between pop, rock and Greek folk music. In Greece he is one of the most popular and successful songwriters.

Private life

From 1983 to 2003 he was married to the 'Greek Madonna ' Anna Vissi . Their daughter Sophia is now an actress. He lived in London for a long time during the 1990s . Since 2006 he has been in a relationship with the Greek television presenter Anita Pania, with whom he has a son.
