Nina Hümpel

Nina Hümpel (born July 6, 1965 in Lübeck ) is a German curator, dance manager and editor. She is the founder of the internet portal tanznetz.de and artistic director of the international festival for contemporary dance in the City of Munich, DANCE .

Life

Hümpel grew up in Lübeck, graduated from the Thomas Mann School and switched to studying theater, literature and philosophy at the Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU) in Munich. In 1992 she completed her studies with a Magister Artium.

During her studies, Nina Hümpel organized the Commedia 91 theater tour through Schleswig-Holstein as artistic director together with Stefanie Bruhn and Florian Borchert. Hümpel also taught dance history and dance analysis at the Institute for Movement Analysis in Switzerland. After completing his studies, he was employed at the Catholic University of Eichstätt in the cultural education course as well as teaching assignments at the Iwanson International School of Contemporary Dance and at the Institute for Theater Studies at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich.

In 1996, Nina Hümpel was a founding member of the internet dance portal tanznetz.de, which she built up in the following years as an editor to an internet community with over 30 volunteer correspondents.

Nina Hümpel is also the editor of the Internet portal “ACCESS TO DANCE - Dance in Bavaria” and the initiator of numerous dance documentaries, e. B. the publication Tanzstadt München together with Stefan Sixt.

In 2010, Nina Hümpel was appointed, together with Dieter Buroch, to be the artistic director of the 13th edition of DANCE - the international festival for contemporary dance of the City of Munich - which took place in October 2012. Nina Hümpel then took over the sole artistic direction of the Biennale.

Juries, engagement and prizes

Nina Hümpel was a juror at the Bavarian State Association for Contemporary Dance, a member of the dance jury of the cultural department of the City of Munich and a juror at the Fund for Performing Arts in Berlin. Since 2019 she has been a member of the jury for the Cultural Prize of Honor of the City of Munich and a juror for the promotion of creative transfer at the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland.

Nina Hümpel is a member of the Munich association “ACCESS TO DANCE - Tanzbasis e. V. "for the promotion of dance in Munich within the framework of the Tanzbasis e. V. As a founding member and board member of TanzMedia, she is committed to promoting quality journalism in dance.

For her work as founder and publisher of tanznetz.de, she was awarded the German Dance Prize in 2014.

In 2020 she sat on the jury for the winners of the German Dance Prize 2020.

Private

Nina Hümpel lives in Munich, is married to Florian Borchert and has two children.
