The Nintendo e-Reader is a peripheral device for the Game Boy Advance , which was released on September 17th, 2002 in the USA. This is a kind of card reader with which a point code, similar to a barcode , can be read in from special e-cards . The Nintendo e-reader is plugged into the module slot and the link port of the Game Boy Advance.

The device is equipped with its own link port so that the link feature can still be used to connect the Game Boy Advance to the Nintendo GameCube, for example . In this way, the contents of the e-cards can be used in GameCube games if this function is supported by the game. It also has an internal, permanent memory to save the contents of the e-cards or tools for the device.

There are various types of e-cards . For example, there are card sets with which you can get old NES games such as Donkey Kong or Ballon Fight by reading in the point code . Nintendo also released special Pokémon trading cards for the Nintendo e-reader . By reading the code on these cards, you received mini-games with the Pokémon belonging to the card or cards. For the GameCube game Animal Crossing , four e-card series were published, with their point code in the game, among other things, for gifts.

The device was not released in Europe.
