Use of a niplette (schematic)

A niplette is a medical aid used to correct sagging or inverted nipples on the female breast. The cause of inverted or inverted nipples is often a shortening of the milk ducts. This abnormality can be a major problem for women who are breastfeeding .

The Niplette is a small plastic funnel with a valve opening at its tip. The niplette is placed on the nipple and a negative pressure is built up with the help of a syringe . The nipple is pulled outwards by the negative pressure. Wearing it for several weeks should gradually stretch the milk ducts, which means that the nipples move outwards accordingly. The change made is permanent.

It is no longer possible to use the Niplette after milk production has commenced, as it is no longer possible to maintain negative pressure in the long term due to the leakage of milk. Women with inverted nipples or inverted nipples should therefore, if possible, carry out the treatment before pregnancy or in the first months of pregnancy.

The Niplette can be purchased in pharmacies without a prescription .
