history

The No. 340 Squadron was set up on November 7, 1941 in Turnhouse with pilots from the Forces françaises libres . It was armed with Spitfires . The unit flew missions over northern France and Brittany . She supported the invasion of Normandy. Then she advanced to Belgium. In September 1944 she was ordered back to Great Britain to accompany bomber formations. In February 1945, the company was relocated to the Netherlands. After the war ended, the squadron was disbanded in Faßberg on July 3, 1945 . The staff re-entered the Armée de l'air .
