The Nobeyama Radio Observatory (short: NRO, English for Japanese 野 辺 山 宇宙 電波 観 測 所 , Nobeyama uchū dempa kansokujo ) is a radio observatory in Minamimaki , Japan .

The Nobeyama Radio Observatory is a division of the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan . The observatory operates three radio telescopes at one location at an altitude of 1350 m:

  • a telescope for radio waves down to 2 mm wavelength, with a reflector diameter of 45 m
  • a radio interferometer , for millimeter waves between 3 and 1 mm wavelength, consisting of 6 antennas, each with a reflector diameter of 10 m
  • a radio heliograph for radio observations of the sun with 84 antennas with a diameter of 80 cm, which are arranged on a T-shaped line of 490 m east-west and 220 m north-south.

NGO also operates Very Long Baseline Interferometry including the use of the HALCA satellite . Participation in the Atacama Large Millimeter Array is sought.
