Nod

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nod is a country mentioned in Genesis ( Gen 4.16  EU ) "east of Eden".

After Cain had killed his brother Abel out of envy , he was rejected by God , but given the mark of Cain as protection against blood revenge . He went to the land of Nod, where he and his wife started a family that produced numerous offspring . The word nod is believed to be derived from the Hebrew word nad , which means "restless" or "wander around". Its participle is used in Gen 4.14  EU , where Cain complains that he now has to move around "vagabond". In the Jewish tradition, 'ereṣ-nôḏ is therefore understood as the "land of wandering"; The Vulgate translates similarly .
