description
The Nodowa is a neck protector made of metal , leather , fabric and silk . It consists of several panels that are attached to a base made of fabric or leather. Often the plates are attached to a padded collar that sits directly on the neck after it has been worn. There are different versions that also differ in their type of closure:
- Nodowa : The collar can be tied at the neck. There is also the version as Kusari-Nodowa in which the outside is armored with chain armor instead of plates.
- Meguriwa : More like a collar . Made of leather or metal, they are wide and narrow at the ends. They are placed directly on the neck when the armor is on. The closure of these collars is similar to a belt lock.
- Eriwa : Also similar to a collar. It is closed with a hook in the neck.
- Manjuwa : If the bottom of the Menpo attached
Its successful use is confirmed in a report of the Battle of Konodai, Shimoza Province, in 1564.
