Norbert Gau (born July 26, 1962 in Essen ) is a German disabled athlete and marksman .

Career

Norbert Gau was born on July 26th, 1962 in Essen. He has been paraplegic since a mountain accident in 1981 . Since he wanted to do sports despite his severe disability, he chose shooting as a sporting discipline and the air rifle as a sporting weapon. He is a member of the fire protection society "Der Bund" Munich.

Because of his good performance in 10 m air rifle shooting , he was soon used in international competitions. He took part in European championships five times: Including 2001, where he was European champion, 2003 and 2005, in which he reached 3rd place in each case, and in 2013, in which he was first again. In addition to these successes, he took part in four world championships, and in 2002 he took 3rd place.

The highlight of his sporting career was his appointment to the German Paralympics team for the Paralympic Summer Games in 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016. In these games he won a silver medal with 693.7 rings in 2008, just ahead of the Slovenian Franc Pinter, the 693.3 Rings reached.

For winning the silver medal, he received the silver bay leaf.
