Norbert Van Caeneghem (born January 25, 1912 in Roubaix , † unknown) was a French football player .

Career

The 180 centimeter tall striker was in 1932 in the squad of the Excelsior AC Roubaix , which was one of the co-founders of the national professional league Division 1 in the same year . At the age of 20 he was one of the young players in the team and at a time when substitutions and substitutions were not yet possible, he was not set as a regular player, even if he was regularly on the field. Together with his teammates, he made it into the national cup final in 1933 , where the team met their city rivals Racing Roubaix . Van Caeneghem was on the pitch in the final, scored a goal in the 26th minute to make it 3-0 and, thanks to a 3-1 win, won his first and only national title. Although he had 13 goals followed in 18 matches in the 1933/34 season, he still did not get a permanent place in the north of France and moved to league rivals CS Metz in 1935 . He took on a similar role at Metz and continued to be a successful goalscorer with ten goals this season following his move.

In 1936 he returned to the far north of France when he went to SC Fives , also competing in the first division . At Fives he had his breakthrough and he was an important goal guarantee for the club, which was mostly in the lower middle of the table. After twelve goals in his first two years, he achieved his personal best of 21 during the 1938/39 season Hits. He took third place among the best league hunters . In the same year the regular game operation came to a standstill by the beginning of the Second World War , but Van Caeneghem was able to continue his career despite the war and took part with Fives in the unofficially continued championship. With the team he also moved into the national cup final in 1941 , but missed a possible second win of the trophy due to a 2-0 defeat against Girondins Bordeaux . In 1942, the then 30-year-old ended his career after 142 top division games with 77 goals and other unofficial games between 1939 and 1942.
