Norbert von Nieding

Norbert von Nieding (* 1934 ) is a German lawyer and former director of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees .

Life

From 1982 to 1992 von Nieding was director of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees. He resigned from his office in protest against the Asylum Acceleration Act introduced in 1992. During his time as director of the BAMF, the centralization of the authority began. Von Nieding had repeatedly advocated an increase in staff during his tenure.

On July 1, 1994, he was appointed federal disciplinary attorney.

Von Nieding is one of the initiators of the constitutional complaint filed in 2014 against the German government's approval of the European Banking Union.
