The Nordenfelt gun were of the British-Swedish arms company Nordenfelt-Compagnie designed and built mitrailleuses who worked automatically and automatically.

The non-automatic Nordenfelt mitrailleuses were developed by the Swedish weapons designer Helge Palmcrantz in 1873 and named after the Swedish inventor and banker Thorsten Nordenfelt (1842–1920); the Nordenfelt automatic mitrailleuses were developed by a Swedish captain Bergman.

The non-automatic ones were provided with one to twelve barrels and were either rifle caliber or 25.4 mm caliber.

Four-barrel mitrailleuses were introduced, for example, in the British Navy and other naval forces. Each of the four barrels that lie next to each other on a frame has a lock. All four locks are operated simultaneously with the help of a lever that emerges sideways and can be moved forwards and backwards. When the barrels are fired, the lever is in the forward position; it is then slowly moved back, which at the same time opens the barrels and ejects the empty cartridge cases. By bringing the lever forward again, the barrels are made ready to fire again and the last part of the movement causes one barrel to be fired in pauses that can be shortened to resemble a volley . A loading funnel placed on the apparatus supplies the barrels with cartridges .

The automatic Nordenfelt mitrailleuses are single-barreled and belong to those machine guns in which the barrel is fixed and the lock works through the recoil .
