The Nordpark in Magdeburg is a 10 hectare public green space in the Alte Neustadt district . It was laid out as a cemetery in 1827 according to plans by Peter Josef Lenné . It is noteworthy that only lying grave slabs were permitted. In 1889 the cemetery was converted into a public square. Even today, tombstone slabs, some of former famous Magdeburgers, are distributed all over the park. A larger coherent complex also forms a Soviet cemetery of honor with 1,652 graves, which was originally intended for the fallen Soviet soldiers of the Second World War , but was also used for deceased soldiers of the Magdeburg garrison until 1966.

The park is freely accessible. It is very popular with students at the neighboring Otto von Guericke University in Magdeburg . The public barbecue areas in the park are particularly popular in summer.

A natural spectacle is the flowering of squill stars ( Scilla siberica ) in the entire park area every spring .
