The north paths ( spelling NORDPFADE ) are 24 hiking trails in the Rotenburg (Wümme) district between Hamburg, Bremen and Hanover. The paths are between 6 and 32 km long. The total distance of all north paths is around 358 km.

Marking and signage

The circular hiking trails are marked and signposted in both directions. Due to the good signage, they are considered impossible to run. There are two starting points for each north path. Markers are uniformly marked with a white "N" on an orange background. Below is the name of the north path and, if necessary, a direction arrow.

The north trails usually run on natural and varied paths and paths. They are characterized by the typical north German landscape with moors, heather areas, meadows and fields. Some paths lead past places that are particularly rich in water, such as the Oste, the Wümme and the Vörder See in Bremervörde.

Awards

Five of the 24 North Paths were certified by the German Hiking Association as "Quality Trail Dream Tour - Hikable Germany" in 2019 . The routes are as follows: Kempowski's Idylle, Dör't Moor, Hölzerbruch-Malse, Ostetal and Kuhbach-Oste. In 2015 the Touristikverband Landkreis Rotenburg (Wümme) eV received a special prize from the Lower Saxony competition “Tourism with a Future 2015” with the north path project “Tischlein deck dich!”. On the NordpfadeN Ostetal and Dör't Moor, a “Tischlein deck Dich” rest area was created in autumn 2016, where nearby restaurateurs offer a meal in the countryside and cater to hikers if ordered in advance.
