Nordstadtblogger is a local journalistic blog that was put online in 2013 by Alexander Völkel, former editor and editorial manager of the Westfälische Rundschau . The professional media project without a so-called pay wall reports almost daily from and about Dortmund's northern part of the city and the entire city area and aims to contribute to “fair reporting” on the polarizing city district on the one hand and to fill the journalistic gap that was created by the closure of the editorial offices of the Westfälische Rundschau in 2013. The volunteer editorial team, made up of specialist journalists and press photographers, was funded by the Vor Ort Foundation NRW in the local journalism category and has already received citizen and journalist prizes, including a. 2018 the Fritz Henßler Prize of the SPD parliamentary group in the Dortmund City Council.

History of origin

In January 2013 the Funke media group , formerly the newspaper group WAZ, announced that it would close all editorial offices of the Westfälische Rundschau . Sacked editors started local online portals in several places in the catchment area of the former traditional newspaper : Bergkamener Infoblog , KamenWeb , Nordstadtblogger . What they have in common is that they do not engage in "gap journalism" or so-called citizen journalism , but rather want to strengthen the " media competence " of citizens.

"Range"

Nordstadtblogger has around 10,000 Facebook friends, 11,000 Twitter followers and more than 2000 Instagram followers. In order to “reach further target groups” as the “next level”, a printed Nordstadt magazine and Nordstadtblogger magazine were launched in 2017 in addition to the online page. This year , the nord.mag was enclosed in three editions with a circulation of around 85,000 copies of the weekend editions of the Ruhr Nachrichten and was available free of charge at public display points.
