Northfield House

Northfield House , also Northfields House , is a mansion in the Scottish town of Prestonpans in the East Lothian council area . history

It is very likely that George Hamilton had Northfield House built in the late 16th century. In 1611 the east wing was enlarged by Joseph Marjoribanks , which resulted in the current floor plan. In 1703 the Syme family bought the property. This went hand in hand with a comprehensive redesign of the interior, with new rooms being created by building additional walls. A ceiling painting from the 17th century was covered by revisions in the Georgian style , which was exposed again in the 1950s.

description

Northfield House is located on Preston Road in the south of Prestonpans, not far from Hamilton House . The three-story building has an L-shaped floor plan. The facades are plastered with Harl , whereby the fins were left out. In the inner corner of the building on the north-facing front, a tower with a semicircular conical roof emerges. A belt cornice runs above the entrance door . Lukarnen are installed on the eaves side , while tourelles protrude at the building edges at the same height . A double-leaf door on the back of the building is designed with a profiled reveal and the inscription "Excep the Lord Buld In Wane Bulds Man" [sic!]. A cornice above the door shows the coats of arms of the Marjoribanks and Simpson families , the initials "IM" and "MS" and the year of construction 1611.
