NoteEdit is a free music notation program for GNU / Linux .

It supports (polyphonic) voices in unlimited number and length, MIDI playback of written notes , chords , texts and contains a number of export and import filters for many different formats such as MIDI, MusicXML , ABC , MUP (Music Publication Program) , PMX, MusiXTeX and LilyPond .

It is suitable as a graphic interface for entering notes, the print version of which can then be optimized with the powerful typesetting programs LilyPond or MusiXTeX.

NoteEdit is written in C ++ , uses the Qt library and includes the K Desktop Environment (KDE) for Unix .

The developers of NoteEdit are now working on a new project called Canorus , which is to become the successor to NoteEdit and which is available for various current operating systems .
