Emergency stop order

An emergency stop order is a message in rail traffic that requests a train to stop.

It is usually given via train radio. Trains stopped by an emergency stop order may only continue with the consent of the dispatcher.

In addition to the verbal emergency stop order, the emergency signals Sh 3 and Sh 5 also exist . In the past, pop capsules were also used here (formerly Sh 4 ).

On the train radio

Emergency stop orders via train radio or the line telephone connection are to be submitted via the emergency call function. Emergency stop orders that are incompletely recorded must also be carried out immediately. Since December 2009, an incoming emergency call with content that is not clearly understood has to be visually driven until the cause of the emergency call has been clarified.

When a train issues the emergency stop order, receipt must be confirmed by the dispatcher . In the case of analog train radio, the emergency stop order must be repeated by the dispatcher or another employee so that the other trains in the area also learn about it.

An emergency stop order extends either to an operating point or to the route between two operating points. It has a defined wording:

Danger of operation, stop all trains immediately! I repeat: operational danger, stop all trains immediately! Here [detector]. "

In the area of ​​validity of the driving service regulation of DB Netz AG (FV-DB), when the emergency stop order is submitted via a telephone connection, apart from line telephone connections, "all trains" should be specified by specifying a route section ("all trains between [train reporting point] and [train reporting point]") or a train station ( "All trains in the station [name]") can be added or replaced by naming a specific train ("train [number]").
