Nové divadlo

Nové divadlo Oldřicha Nového (German The New Theater of Oldřich Nový ) was built in 1934 in Prague ( Czech Republic ) as an experimental stage. At the beginning pieces were performed under the direction of the surrealist Jindřich Honzl . At the end of the year, the director, actor, translator, dramaturge and author of numerous plays Oldřich Nový leased the stage. He previously worked successfully in the Brno Operetta House from 1919 to 1934.

In the New Theater he wanted to fulfill his wish to perform musical comedies. The theater fought for survival for the first two years, and then from 1936 the stage established itself. Among the most successful productions at the time were Štěstí do domu (Luck in the House) (1934), Jedenáctý v řadě (The eleventh in the series) (1941), Komediant (Comedian) (1943) and Kavárnička (The Coffee House ) (1937). Oldřich Nový was known as a director who staged the production without improvising (back then you had to pay fines for improvising). His favorite actor roles were the confident gentleman and the humble civil servant.

The theater was confiscated by the state in 1948. The new ensemble with real socialist stage plays did not reach the audience and led the theater to bankruptcy .
