Noxolo Kiviet

Noxolo Kiviet (born July 21, 1963 in East London , South Africa ) is a South African politician. She was Prime Minister of South Africa's Eastern Cape Province from May 6, 2009 to 2014 . She is a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the African National Congress (ANC).

Political career

Kiviet began her political career as a union member and rose to union leader by 1988. Until the mid-1990s, she subsequently held managerial positions in various trade unions and finally became treasurer of the ANC in the Eastern Cape in 1996 . She held this position until 2003. In the same year she moved to the office of the Prime Minister of the Eastern Cape Province, where she chaired the Finance Commission. From 2004 until she took office as Prime Minister of the Eastern Cape Province, she was the spokeswoman for the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature , the provincial regional parliament. Kiviet succeeded Mbulelo Sogoni in the post of Prime Minister of the Eastern Cape Province in 2009, making her the second woman in this position.

Noxolo Kiviet attended Wongalethu High School in Mdantsane .

She completed her studies parallel to her political activities at the University of Fort Hare . There she did her bachelor's degree in administrative sciences in 2006 . The following year she completed her postgraduate studies in the same subject with an honors degree . From 2006 onwards she studied again at Fort Hare University and obtained a master's degree in administrative sciences in 2010 .
