Nucleus centromedianus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The centromedian nucleus is the largest non-specific intralaminar nucleus of the thalamus . It receives its afferents from pallidum , premotor cortex and formatio reticularis ( ARAS ), among others . The centromedian nucleus is efferently connected to the caudate nucleus , putamen and other thalamic nuclei. The functions of this core complex become clear on the basis of the fiber bonds. As a component of the thalamic ARAS, this core plays an important role as a non-specific waking system and through the connections to the basal ganglia (e.g. pallidum) it is involved in the processing of motor impulses.
