Nucleus ventralis anterolateralis

Nucleus ventralis anterolateralis ("ventral, anterior-lateral nucleus") is a core area of the thalamus , a structure of the interbrain ( diencephalon ). It is part of control loops that regulate motion sequences.

The nucleus ventralis anterior ( VA ) and the nucleus ventralis lateralis ( VL ) are combined under this core area .

It is a so-called specific nucleus of the thalamus . This core represents a connection between the developmentally older motor regions of the brain , such as the cerebellum and the basal ganglia , with the motor regions of the cerebral cortex .

The nucleus receives supplying nerve fibers ( afferents ) e.g. B. from the nuclei of the cerebellum, from the globus pallidus and from the substantia nigra . These centers play a huge role in modulating and fine-tuning movements. Nerve fibers ( efferents ) leading out of the nucleus ventralis anterolateralis lead to the primary motor cortex and the premotor cortex of the cerebrum . This is where movements are ultimately triggered.
