Nueva Londres
Nueva Londres (German: New London ) is a city and a district in the Caaguazú department in Paraguay , 137 km east of Asunción . It has about 4,800 inhabitants and covers an area of 883 km². The place was founded in 1893 by Australian settlers as New Australia , who originally wanted to realize their dream of a utopian, socialist society here. It was declared a district in 1957 and received its current name. It is mainly used for agriculture and livestock.
A tourist attraction is the annual Fiesta del Tujú , which takes place on December 25th , where a kind of rodeo with bulls and young horses is held. Tujú is the Guaraní word for mud. The festival bears this name because in the end hundreds of residents and visitors throw themselves into the mud and dance in the plaza of the town.
