Qostanai trolleybus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The trolleybus Qostanai ( Russian Костанайский троллейбус Kostanaiski trolleibus ) was the trolleybus system of the Kazakh city of Qostanai .

history

The company opened on December 28, 1989. At that time a line as well as an administration building and a depot were put into operation. The fleet initially comprised twelve trolleybuses. 280 people were employed.

In 1991 another 50 trolleybuses were purchased and the network expanded to four lines. After the collapse of the Soviet Union and Kazakhstan's independence, the company ran into financial difficulties several times. On March 23, 1999, the company was privatized and has since been operated by Kostanaielektrotrans (Russian: Костанайэлектротранс). At the same time, the city's subsidies were canceled, which meant that electricity costs had to be reduced and the trolleybuses have not been heated since then. In 2004, operations on three of the four lines were stopped due to cable damage in a substation .

In a court case in 2004, the court ordered the division of the indebted company. From then on, the trolleybus was operated by the companies Kostanaisserwisselektro (Russian: Костанайсервисэлектро) and Kostanaiski trolleibusny park (Russian: Костанайский троллейбусный парк). In 2005 the operation was stopped, the vehicle fleet and the overhead line remained functional. In 2012, work began on dismantling the infrastructure.
