Numismatic Society in Berlin

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Numismatic Society in Berlin is a registered association that was founded on December 22, 1843. This makes it the oldest numismatic society in Germany and one of the oldest in Europe (after the Royal Numismatic Society founded in London in 1836 and the Société royale de Numismatique founded in Brussels in 1841 ).

The purpose of the society is "the maintenance of numismatics, in particular the mutual instruction on subjects of coinage and related sciences, as well as the support and publication of scientific work on coins".

The journal published by the Numismatic Society has been published monthly as Berliner Münzblätter since 1880 . During the National Socialist era, the company had to change the title of the magazine to Deutsche Münzblätter .
